Health Data for Grand Forks County

I thought it might be interesting to some of you to note some health data on Grand Forks County. Fortunately, the North Dakota Department of Health has compiled a health profile for GF County. There is an extensive amount of information based upon Adult Behavioral Risk Factors. The entire profile can be found HERE.

Of particular interest, especially to a Dietitian like me, is the information regarding overweight/obesity and the health factors leading to that outcome. In Grand Forks County, 68.8% of adults are considered either overweight or obese. 75.4% of people do not get the recommended 5 servings of fruits and vegetables per day and another 35.7% of people do not get the recommended amount of physical activity on a daily basis.

It’s clear to me that there is much to be done in the area of preventative health. The low consumption of fruits and vegetables has me particularily worried. Adequate consumption of fruits and vegetables are critical to healthy lifestyles and can help prevent disease, including some forms of cancer.

It’s time to take mom’s advice. Eat your fruits and veggies!

Where do they obtain all the statistics from? I’m a smoker(never ever been called) and now with this, have never been called. I think all surveys are done by whom they want to call, making their survey sway the way they want it to be.

Hi! Thanks for posting your question. You can find some answers to how the surveys are conducted here:

I can assure you that the surveys are truly randomized in order to give the most accurate data. It’s standard procedure when conducting research.
